The Most Shocking Look at Motherhood in America Returns for #GiveDayTampaBay!
Tampa, FL (March 30, 2016)– The Seventh Mom Project, Inc. is proud to be participating in the third annual Give Day Tampa Bay on May 3, 2016, and we are encouraging residents to donate to us in our efforts to strengthen families struggling with perinatal distress disorders through community education, collaboration with medical professionals, and establishing a network of peer-to-peer support.
All money raised on this day will stay in the Tampa Bay community.
Give Day Tampa Bay is a 24-hour, online giving event, designed to increase philanthropy in the Tampa Bay area and raise awareness of the amazing work local nonprofits do in this community. This is the third year that the Community Foundation of Tampa Bay has sponsored this event, which raised $1.75 million for 550 Tampa Bay area nonprofits last year.
Donations to The Seventh Mom Project, Inc. help us to bring educational events to professionals working with moms during their perinatal year. Financial contributions help us to maintain our open peer-to-peer support groups across the Tampa Bay area.
In addition to raising awareness of the participating nonprofits, Give Day Tampa Bay offers cash prizes to the participants with the most donations, another reason to give on May 3.
“We are excited to be participating in our first Give Day Tampa Bay event because we have heard from numerous nonprofits about how beneficial it was to them and their fundraising efforts,” said Elizabeth Good, Vice-President. We hope to raise $5,000, which will help us tremendously in our work. We also hope to win one of the many cash prizes in the prize pool.”
To increase awareness about Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders, we have asked the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners to proclaim the first week of May as Perinatal Mental Health Awareness Week. In conjunction with this proclamation, and Give Day Tampa Bay, The Seventh Mom Project, Inc. is hosting a special screening of “Dark Side of the Full Moon” followed by a panel discussion at Tampa General Hospital on May 3, 2016 at 6:00 pm. Dark Side of the Full Moon delves into the unseen world of maternal mental health in the U.S. It will uncover the disconnect within the medical community to effectively screen, refer, and treat the 1.3 million mothers affected each year, giving a face and voice to the countless women who have suffered in silence.
Please learn more about the details of the event by visiting our Facebook and you can register to attend this event here.
It’s so simple to give during Give Day Tampa Bay. Simply visit this link on May 3, 2016 and find The Seventh Mom Project, Inc. in the list of participating organizations. All donations made are tax-deductible and will remain here in the Tampa Bay area.

#LoveAnotherMother #MomsMatter #StandWithMoms
You’ve probably seen a few post recently regarding "Bringing Postpartum Depression Out of the Shadows Act of 2015” (H.R. 3235 and S. 2311). Maybe you’ve wondered about this #LoveAnotherMother campaign or those twibbons you see that say mothers matter. No? Well let me fill you in. The National Coalition for Maternal Mental Health (NCMMH) has put out this call for action.
“Families need systems in their own individual communities to screen, treat and support Moms and families working through the challenges of maternal mental health challenges, like postpartum depression.
Our “National Day of Action” will send an impactful message to our elected officials letting them know their own constituents want them to support “Bringing Postpartum Depression Out of the Shadows Act of 2015” (H.R. 3235 and S. 2311)!” – The National Coalition for Maternal Mental Health
Basically, the S.2311 Bill, and it's twin in the House, HR 3235, are seeking to amend the Public Health Service Act to authorize the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to make grants to states to establish, expand, or maintain culturally competent programs for screening and treatment of women who are pregnant, or who have given birth within the preceding 12 months, for maternal depression.
Activities eligible for this funding would include providing appropriate training and relevant resources, including information on maternal depression screening, treatment, follow-up support, and linkages to community-based resources, to health care providers; and may include public awareness campaigns, funding start-up costs, and establishing linkages with and among community-based resources.
Hey those eligible activities sure sound familiar don’t they? Imagine grants to develop and enhance the tools we need to help more moms...
Here at The Seventh Mom Project, Inc. we would never tell you how to vote or who to vote for. What we will tell you, is this: as a citizen of the United States, not only is it your right to vote and participate in your government; participation is your opportunity to make a difference. This opportunity takes a little more effort than casting votes on Election Day. This opportunity continues throughout the year through actions and campaigns such as this one. Tell your representatives (those folks you voted for) how you, the people who voted for them feel about various bills and initiatives. Make your voice heard!
So this Thursday, February 11, 2016 I will be going to my members’ social media pages to Tweet and post on Facebook, Instagram & Tumblr. Here’s what I am planning to use, thanks to NCMMH for coming up with the hashtags.
For the HOUSE: #LoveAnotherMother: @Rep'sTwitterHandleHere Support Moms and families! Cosponsor #HR3235! Bring #PPD Out of the Shadows b/c #MomsMatter
For the SENATE: #LoveAnotherMother: @Rep'sTwitterHandleHere Support Moms and families! Cosponsor S2311! Bring #PPD Out of the Shadows b/c #MomsMatter
Since I am in Tampa Bay, I’m focusing on my local representatives. You can find yours here;
House of Representatives
The Senate
So whether you agree or disagree, support or oppose, you have an opportunity to use your voice.
So use it February 11, 2016, to let your representatives know how you feel about H.R. 3235 and S. 2311 and remember your voice matters.

From the film's producers:
Having a baby is supposed to be the happiest time of your life. But what if it’s not? Each year, 1.3 million women in the U. S. struggle to find support and treatment for postpartum depression and other perinatal mood disorders. Two women, Jennifer Silliman and Maureen Fura, both with firsthand knowledge of this challenge, came together to give a face and a voice to the countless women who suffer in silence. With the help of Dr. Shoshana Bennett, Executive Producer, they produced a documentary film, uncovering disconnects within the medical community to effectively screen, refer, and treat these women.
One in seven women will experience a pregnancy and postpartum mood and anxiety disorder, and one in one thousand will suffer from postpartum psychosis. However, it is the one condition during pregnancy and postpartum that is most often under-diagnosed by care providers. “Nobody is asking any questions. Women are dying! Families are suffering! And there still isn’t a comprehensive policy to protect mothers,” says Fura, the film’s writer and director.
