Overcoming Barriers for Optimal Outcomes

Picture
Thursday, August 23rd will be an optional overview of identification, assessment and treatment of perinatal mental illnesses; this is meant to be a primer for the main conference that will take place Friday, August 24 and Saturday, August 25.
This annual conference provides an opportunity to meet others working with and advocating for perinatal mental health services as well as learn new skills and information in the field of perinatal mood and anxiety disorders.  This is a unique training opportunity also providing space to network with others in the field.  The purpose is to bring together the various disciplines and professionals working with, caring for and making decisions related to perinatal mental illnesses.  This includes medical and mental health providers, policy makers, child birth professionals, lactation consultants, support and resource organizations, researchers, educators and advocates.

Storms of Motherhood: Maternal Mental Health for Perinatal Professionals

The Storms of Motherhood Training provides an overview of the etiology, risk factors, and common manifestations and symptoms of Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders.
We examine ways to improve early detection and prevention by screening and creating appropriate prenatal preparation.  Evidence based screening tools and methods are discussed. This is a non-medical workshop.

This training experience can be tailored to the scope of practice of the audience.
The purpose of the training is to:
  1. Familiarize persons working with perinatal women with perinatal mood and anxiety disorders
  2. Provide participants with the skill to screen for the need for further evaluation
  3. Provide participants with the evidence as to why perinatal mental health is an important facet of Public Health.

This training experience can be tailored to the scope of practice of the audience.

If your organization would like to schedule a training at your facility, please contact us.

DONA Postpartum Doula Training

Picture
The Seventh Mom Project, Inc. was happy to host Marcia Thuermer of Baby Blue and Pink for a DONA Postpartum Doula Training on November 4-6th.
Six women were trained to begin their process of becoming a Postpartum Doula.  Elizabeth was one of them and can not say enough great things about working with Marcia to bring this training to Tampa.

"It was an exciting, emotional weekend.  I feel grateful to cross paths with the women in the training, and hope our paths align again soon." --Elizabeth Good

Storms of Motherhood: Maternal Mental Health for the Perinatal Professional

Picture
On January 30th, fourteen passionate women joined Rebecca and I for the premier Storms of Motherhood Training.  We were graciously hosted by Guiding Star Tampa/Life Choice's Women;s Care at their beautiful facility in Lutz, Fl.  The training included the manifestations of Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders, the etiology, intensifying factors, how to appropriately screen clients and how to incorporate lessons on PMADs in prenatal and postpartum interactions with clients.  The training also included a viewing of The Dark Side of the Full Moon that led to crucial lunch time conversations.
We danced, sang and cried.  It was a wonderful experience for me to see the caring hearts of the women learning how to do better by mothers.
Rebecca and I learned a lot about how better to present this information to professionals in the field as well as moms and advocates. While we look forward to future classes, we deeply want to thank the participants for being our first class of trainees.
